How to Use Your Guard Step 1: Heating the Guard Boil water in a pan that can be filled at least 3 inches deep. Once the water comes to a boil, remove the pan from the heat and let the water stop boiling for several seconds. Drop the guard into the hot water for 20-30 seconds, then remove it and allow it to cool for a few seconds. Hold the guard on a paper towel, with the edges facing toward you and the mouthpiece end facing up, to prevent the walls from collapsing against each other.

Step 2: Molding and Fitting the Guard After a few seconds, you'll be able to touch the guard with your fingers. Slightly spread the walls of the guard apart to make room for your teeth. Use your tongue to apply pressure to the inside walls while simultaneously using your fingers to press directly against the outside walls, tightening the guard around your teeth for about 15 or 20 seconds.
